Where to Go Long and Short on ES Chart
☀️ TODAY’S REVIEW:

✏️ Summary: Tips for Futures Traders
Opening Remarks
Every trader knows the feeling. The market, calm just moments ago, suddenly collapses into a freefall. A massive, red “vomit down” candle paints across the chart, and your heart starts pounding. The fear of missing out (FOMO) screams at you—jump in short, or try to be the hero and catch the bottom.
But what if you were already managing a 100-point winning long trade when that sell-off began? Suddenly, the chaos looks different. It’s not an opportunity you’re missing; it’s a distraction from the plan you’re already executing.
This post breaks down three key takeaways from a recent, wild trading session that prove the most powerful form of discipline isn’t just waiting for a setup—it’s sticking to your plan while ignoring the noise.
Takeaway 1: Your Best Trades Are Made Before the Market Opens
Before the opening bell rings, a professional trader’s work is already done. The key levels and scenarios are laid out in a “Battle Plan.” On this particular day, the session started with a successful “Battle Plan Trade #1” from the night before—a position already up 100 points.
Later that morning, another opportunity appeared: a long setup at the bottom of a key trading range. That trade failed. Price was rejected, and the setup didn’t work out. For many traders, this moment sparks panic—a scramble to find a new idea or force a revenge trade.
But with a plan in place, the response is simple: move on to the next step. There was no emotional reaction, just a pivot to the next pre-mapped scenario.
What did I do? I looked for the next Battle Plan trade idea. My eyes were on Battle Plan Trade #2.
This approach is powerful because it replaces emotional decision-making with a structured process. Even when a mid-session setup doesn’t work out, you’re not left asking, “What now?”—because you already have the answer. You created it hours earlier when you were calm, objective, and focused.
Takeaway 2: Let the Waterfall Happen Without You
After the failed long attempt, the market delivered the kind of sharp sell-off that can destroy accounts. Price cascaded downward in a violent waterfall. So why wasn’t I trying to short it?
The reason is critical: I was still focused on my long bias. My job was to manage the profitable long trade I already had.
As I told the group, “I was not looking for shorts. I was still long. I got trailed out of my trade today at 100 points.”
This wasn’t just willpower—it was the natural outcome of sticking to my pre-defined plan. The sell-off was a mechanical move: the market rejected the range, late longs got caught off-sides and liquidated, and aggressive shorts piled on. That combination exaggerated the downside move.
But I didn’t chase it. I didn’t guess the bottom. I didn’t take the “knife catch” long. I simply waited—for the market to come to my next planned entry: Battle Plan Trade #2.
Takeaway 3: You Are the CEO of Your Own Trading
A plan is just a document until you execute it. Execution requires ownership—of every decision from entry to exit. No mentor, no analyst can click the buttons for you. As a trader, you are the Chief Executive Officer of your own business.
I’m not in charge of your trading. I’m not in charge of your entries. I’m not in charge of your exits. You are.
This CEO mindset was essential in managing the successful long trade that came from Battle Plan Trade #2. Once the position was in motion, my job was trade management: adjusting my stop behind a strong level and aiming for logical profit targets like the Point of Control (POC).
Trading like a professional means operating by your own business rules. For traders at prop firms, this sometimes means not making too much money in one day, in order to stay consistent.
It’s not about squeezing every last tick out of a move—it’s about making smart, executive decisions that keep your trading business alive and thriving.
Conclusion: Plan, Wait, and Execute
The lessons from this volatile day are clear and timeless. Elite trading isn’t about reacting quickly to chaos—it’s about calmly executing a plan that was built to survive it.
By creating your Battle Plan before the market opens, you develop a roadmap through the noise. By having the discipline to ignore dramatic, unplanned moves, you preserve your capital and attention for the trades that actually matter. And by stepping fully into your role as CEO, you make the crucial calls that secure profit and protect longevity.
The next time the market moves without you, will you chase it—or will you wait confidently for it to come to your level?
A Recap of Today’s Price Action & Setups:
Were you patient?
Did you wait for your entries… and then wait for your runner to unfold? That’s where the growth happens… in the waiting.
We never know which trade will be the one that really goes, goes, goes!
But today, once again, it was the Battle Plan trade ideas that produced the cleanest, easiest wins. Bulls were in control, and we simply waited… like surfers watching for the perfect wave. 🌊
When bulls control the tape, I focus 95% on longs only. It’s just easier… and calmer.
Patience pays. Every time you choose to wait instead of chase, you build the discipline that makes this game winnable
Battle Plan (2️⃣)… my preferred trade (in GREEN)… played out perfectly today too! It long in the Strong Range and held. See the chart below.
WHERE TO ENTER?

Today, once again, we focused on trading at the right locations on the chart… that’s half the battle: knowing exactly where you want to engage with price.
That’s the very purpose of the Battle Plan. My goal is that it brings calm and clarity to your trading, because when we know where to expect reactions, we can pair that with our Core Strategy for entry. It’s a perfect marriage.

TRADE OF THE DAY
My 100-pointer concluded today at 100 points.
Battle Plan (1️⃣) was 50-70 pointer.
Battle Plan (2️⃣) is still active. 50+ points as of the close.

Each evening, I scan the ES chart and ask one primary question:
Where are the bulls and bears positioned?
“Great bears know where the bulls are.
Great bulls know where the bears are.”
The arrows you see highlight those pressure points…zones where reactions in price are most likely.
Careful consideration is given to trend, range structure, liquidity pools, and our Strong Levels — a custom TradingView indicator available to paid Battle Plan or full Micros Trader members.
Most arrows lean toward the buy side. That’s no coincidence as the ES is a long-biased instrument over time.
How you choose to trade these zones is entirely up to you:
Entry:
- Our Core Strategy: Low-time frame bounce levels.
- Level Reclaim: Market order with proper stop loss under low.
- Your own preferred method: Just use the arrows as a price map and trade on your own confirmation.
- Paper Trade til confident.
- Set Alerts on TradingView as ES/MES trades 23 hours a day. Entries may occur at any time.
Instrument:
- Futures — My primary instrument as our group trades ES/MES futures as scalps and multi-day holds.
- Option spreads
Nothing on this page is a trade recommendation.
