What is the purpose of having a Battle Plan in trading?

A Battle Plan is a structured list of potential trade scenarios identified before the market opens. It helps traders act with intention rather than react emotionally to price movements. It encourages discipline by forcing the trader to wait for specific setups instead of chasing random trades.

How does a Battle Plan improve emotional discipline?

By outlining trades in advance, the Battle Plan reduces emotional decision-making during volatile moments. It instills patience, composure, and the habit of following through on a plan—skills that are crucial for surviving both winning and losing streaks.

What are “Ladders” in a trade entry strategy?

Ladders are staggered levels for entering a trade, each with varying risk and confirmation. The “Tip” is the most aggressive entry, followed by the First Ladder, and then the Second Ladder—considered the safest entry as it waits for stronger confirmation. New traders are encouraged to favor the Second Ladder to reduce risk.

Why is the “Second Ladder” entry often recommended?

The Second Ladder helps traders avoid prematurely entering counter-trend trades. It ensures there’s enough confirmation that the market may be reversing or continuing as planned. This technique teaches discipline by rewarding patience.

What is a “Runner” in trading?

A Runner is a portion of your position—usually one contract—that you leave open after taking partial profits. It allows you to participate in potentially large moves (e.g., 100+ points) without re-entering. This tool is key for maximizing trades while reducing emotional interference.

Why do traders use Runners?

Runners allow traders to stay in strong trades longer and capture bigger moves. Since part of the profit has already been locked in, the remaining contract can be managed with less pressure, increasing the chance of catching large, unexpected gains.

How do Battle Plan, Ladders, and Runners work together?

They form a structured framework for trading. The Battle Plan guides pre-trade thinking, Ladders manage disciplined entries, and the Runner strategy ensures proper trade management. Together, they help traders maintain control before, during, and after a trade.

What is the most important skill a trader must develop?

Patience. Trading success often depends more on emotional control than technical analysis. A trader who can wait for high-quality setups and avoid impulsive trades is far more likely to sustain long-term success.

What is the difference between the Battle Plan and Core Strategy?

This was a question from a prospective member this weekend – Thanks Kevin!

Battle Plan:

Outlines the zones where we’d ideally look for long and short opportunities. Think of the Battle Plan like painting with a broad brush on canvas… the way you’d start an oil painting. These zones represent the major structures of your composition: the buildings, the mountains, the foundational elements that give shape to the larger picture. Use the Strong Levels Tradinview Indicator and the NOTES to help with entry.

The Strong Levels is a TradingView indicator updated each Sunday. These levels represent the most important levels for the week. We craft our Battle Plan trades around these levels, coupled with current price action.

The Strong Levels and Battle Plan work hand-in-hand. One without the other is futile in-my-humble-opinion.

Core Strategy:

This is our scalping system, typically executed on a 3-minute chart. We identify three primary “bounce levels” based on the chart’s structure, then scalp the bounces off these levels. Core Strategy is essentially an entry system, while our 3-Contract System handles trade management. Both are taught at the Gold Level and reinforced daily in Discord and on Zoom.

You can wait for price to reach the Battle Plan zones, then use Core Strategy as your entry trigger… combined with the NOTES from the Battle Plan. However, you don’t need to know Core Strategy to profit from the Battle Plan. They work together beautifully, but they also stand alone.

Zoom:

The purpose of zoom to is to discuss trade ideas for BOTH the Battle Plan and Core Strategy. We discuss the macro and the micro. We outline precisions entries and exit ideas live Monday-Friday.

Battle Plan vs. Core Strategy: Understanding the Difference

Battle Plan is your big-picture roadmap. It identifies major support and resistance zones where high-probability trading opportunities are likely to develop. Think broad brushstrokes… the structural framework of your trading day. It tells you where to look for trades. You can trade the Battle Plan without any other system simply by watching how price behaves at these key zones and reading the NOTES for each trade idea.

Core Strategy is your precision entry system. It works on a granular level (3-minute charts) and gives you specific bounce levels based on current market structure. It tells you exactly when to enter a trade by scalping bounces off these identified levels. Core Strategy includes our 3-Contract System for trade management, making it a complete scalping framework.

How They Work Together:

▶️ Battle Plan provides the zones (the “where”)

▶️ Core Strategy provides the entry trigger (the “when”)

▶️ You can use Battle Plan alone and still profit

▶️ You can combine them: wait for price to reach a Battle Plan zone, then use Core Strategy for your precise entry

▶️ Core Strategy can also be used independently for intraday scalping opportunities

The Key Distinction: Battle Plan = strategic positioning (macro view) Core Strategy = tactical execution (micro view)

A Recap of Today’s Price Action & Setups:

BIG PICTURE:

On Saturday’s video (time-stamped) I remarked, “Of course, we have a new all-time high done in the overnight session. That is going to be a big magnet for us to hit during RTH. I wouldn’t be shocked if that happened this week.”

Coming off Friday’s market, that might have sounded like a stretch.

But… we understand how ES moves. That’s why we mapped only longs for last night and today. Our Battle Plan put us on the right side of price action.

OVERNIGHT:

What a wild overnight session.

Battle Plan (2️⃣) delivered a solid 20-point move… if you managed to get entry. And that’s the key word: if. It was tricky, to say the least. Here’s the reality: not every entry is offered on a satin pillow. Sometimes you execute in less-than-ideal conditions, or you exercise discipline and wait for the next setup.

Battle Plan (3️⃣) offered a 100+ pointer from the recommended entry location… the reclaim/retest of the “2026 RTH OPEN 6902” Strong Level. Note that Battle Plan (3️⃣), as outlined, was 75 points away from Friday’s close… AND… we made all the way there!

Most traders and groups don’t scout and map out potential setups 75 points away from current price. We do… and that’s what gives our members the edge.

Unfortunately, I was deep asleep when Battle Plan (3️⃣) triggered! Oh well… on to the next setup!

I often catch myself asking if I should set my alarm to trade the London opening. The answer is no. The fatigue drawdown isn’t worth it. I can’t hold myself responsible for NOT being in a trade that happened while I sleep.

That said, at least we focused on trading at the right locations on the chart… and that’s half the battle right there. Knowing exactly where you want to engage with price changes everything. It’s the very purpose of the Battle Plan.

My goal? To bring calm and clarity to your trading. Because when you know where to expect reactions… when you’ve got those key Battle Plan trade ideas identified ahead of time.

No guessing. No chasing. No emotional decisions in the heat of the moment.

Just patient, disciplined trading at the levels that matter most.

RTH:

Not much! The play was to be “ALREADY LONG or FLAT”.

I repeated over and over, “Do not short a short-covering rally.”

We opened with a large 15+ point candle… A monster red flag! 🚩

We discussed a possible long inside the green box, either a NEW entry or an add-on if you were long from below, with a “Take Profit” at the next Strong Level for a nice 25-pointer!

Since Sunday’s opening, we traversed from to 100-Day VAL and back up to the 100-Day VAH. What a move! Nearly a 150-point range – 3X the normal ES ATR.

As we neared the 100-DAY VAH Strong Level, we mentioned, “IF the bears wanted to mount a defense, it is this area. If we clear the 100-Day VAH, the Overnight ATH is the target.”

I can’t go long here (see the chart below)… and I can’t short a short-covering rally. There’s only ONE thing to do… NOTHING. Absolutely nothing. And THAT is the hardest thing for young traders to do: nothing! If is often the very best trade of the day!

Missed the hundred-pointer? Heck, so did I. Sometimes the herd runs and you ain’t in the saddle… that’s just how it goes. No use crying over it. We’ll sit tight and wait patient-like. Another drive’ll come along directly. The market’s like the frontier… there’s always another opportunity over the next rise.

Best ES Long: 100-Pointer

We tend to get one Battle Plan trade idea per week that runs 100+ points. Last week and this week, that trade came early in the week.

If you are playing perfect chess, you could still be long! Target the ATH!

We mapped one long in the green box as mentioned above that ran for 25 points. Since we mapped out the green box, we will count this as an outlined entry that counts for the Scoreboard. Side Note: I did NOT take this trade as I do not like chasing an entry after price has moved 100 points.

Video: How To Trade The Battle Plan

Each evening, I scan the ES chart and ask one primary question:

Where are the bulls and bears positioned?

"Great bears know where the bulls are.
Great bulls know where the bears are."

The arrows you see highlight those pressure points...zones where reactions in price are most likely.

Careful consideration is given to trend, range structure, liquidity pools, and our Strong Levels — a custom TradingView indicator available to paid Battle Plan or full Micros Trader members.

Most arrows lean toward the buy side. That's no coincidence as the ES is a long-biased instrument over time.

How you choose to trade these zones is entirely up to you:

Entry:

Our Core Strategy: Low-time frame bounce levels.
Level Reclaim: Market order with proper stop loss under low.
Your own preferred method: Just use the arrows as a price map and trade on your own confirmation.
Paper Trade til confident.
Set Alerts on TradingView as ES/MES trades 23 hours a day. Entries may occur at any time.
